Join other Irish film fans at Celtic Junction Arts Center for a free screeningof Small Things Like These, directed by Tim Mielants, and starring Academy Award-winning actor Cillian Murphy. Based on Claire Keegan’s novella of the same name. Small Things Like These revisits the tragic story of Ireland’s Magdalene Laundries. This time, from the perspective of Bill Furlong, a coal hauler who hears and sees all that happens in his village as he makes his deliveries. Especially timely, the film asks us to consider what we do when we see injustice in our community but are hesitant to put ourselves at risk to address it. The Chicago Sun-Times describes Small Things Like These as a “quietly powerful masterpiece” and Murphy’s performance as “authentic to the bone”. Attendees are invited to a discussion after the 98-minute film.
