Soon after Maury Glover’s report on the Second Monday Shanty Sing, the nice folks from The Local reached out and invited us to start a First Monday Shanty Sing at their establishment. We’re all for it because it means we’ll seldom have a Monday without a pub sing, and expanding our sings westward will help us introduce the joys of pub singing to more folks across the metro. Also, The Local is a very nice pub with plenty of space for singing, lots of free parking, good food and drink, and easy access off Highways 100 and 394 — so it’s worth the drive even if you live farther east.

All the normal rules will apply: no instruments, no songbooks (though you can use a cheat sheet or your phone if you need to), and lead a song with a chorus we can all sing along with. We’ll likely keep it to sea songs the first time out, though we’ll clarify with Local management if they want us to do that or if it’s OK to let in an occasional Irish song, drinking song, labor song, etc. I’ll be your songherder the first time out, and we’ll work up a rotating herding schedule going forward.
