Merlins Rest Pub Sing

April 15 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

THIRD MONDAY PUB SINGS 7-9 pm
1. We have a no-book, no-instrument policy. As to books: learn the song and lead it! Loudly! If you need a cheat sheet, you’re in good company. But really, it so much better to put the paper down and sing.
2. The repertoire is pretty open: we want songs that work well unamplified with a crowd backing you up. Effectively, this eliminates almost all pop music for the last 75 years or so, and even most singer-songwriter stuff doesn’t work so well. Shanties, drinking songs, labor hymns, old-time gospel… Try it out and see if it sticks! Simple choruses are best, but that doesn’t mean we can’t rise to the occasional challenge…
3. All ages are welcome, but PLEASE NOTE: This is not a “family sing.” There will be some mild cussing, reference to the joys of liquor and sex, and probably some references to genders and/or ethnic origin that will offend the thin-skinned. But if your kid is up for it, and knows not to sing about how much he loves whiskey in front of your dour great-aunt, come on down!
4. These sings are, as of April 2022, mask-optional. If that doesn’t work for you, two suggestions: consider fitted “singers masks” (findable on search engines), or join us at outdoor sings or online sings, fourth Mondays at Wabun picnic area (invitations via Facebook).
The previous rotation of Sunday sings, each quarterly, on first Sundays, are in abeyance for now. As they are revived/reconfigured/replaced, we’ll let you know here.
